Fall Colors

... We are finally being blessed with the beautiful colors of Fall here in South Central IN. I was worried we wouldn't see them this year with the crazy weather. I wish I had thought to take a picture of this tree yesterday, when the sun was shining through it. It was beautiful. This one loses its leaves rather quickly, so I thought I better get a picture today. The storms we are expecting will probably take half the leaves off. We went to Bloomington this weekend. The traffic was horrendous, as expected this time of year. The fall colors were worth it though. I can't wait for the Oaks in the backyard to begin to change colors, they are always beautiful.

The Shibui was just too much for me to resist. I wound a hank of it on Friday and knit this sock. I don't think I will have second sock syndrome with this one. I really enjoyed knitting it, once I figured out that the reason I couldn't get the pattern to work was because I temporarily forgot how to count. The pooling is not what I expected. Those small balls of yarn sure do make me sweat bullets as I get close to the toe. I made the leg on this one a tad shorter than usual, just to be safe. I think I had maybe enough for half a stitch pattern repeat left from the first ball. This is what it looks like from the front. Karen is busy thinking up a name for it. I took good notes, and they are in "the notebook" so I should have a pattern written up for this one soon.

And I did finish a pair that I started long ago. It has been a singleton for some time. The Triple Twist socks in the Lorna's Georgetown colorway. This pattern will be available again soon at The Loopy Ewe I just mailed a box of patterns to her last week. They are really more blue looking I think the yellow from the leaves and the overcast day are playing games with my camera. And the Ariel mitts are now a complete pair. I finally wove in the ends today.I wonder how many more pair I need to knit for gifts?? They keep disappearing.
Well, I need to wind another ball of the Shibui. I hope everyone has a fabulous week and Happy Knitting!!

I love that new sock!!! It is funny how it pooled. I think a couple of the names I've given you are pretty good (I hope one will stick, because sometimes I have brain freezes).Type up those notes fast so I can knit it(I'm exercising my right to not knit the short-row heel though)!! Your Triple Twists are lovely (don't you just love Lorna's?).

If I could test knit it--I would do the short row heel, Monica--LOL!! Both pairs of socks are very beautiful!! When I first saw that first pair--the song Circle of Life came to my mind. I have been watching The Loopy Ewe for your patterns to get restocked, then am gonna buy a bunch of them all at one time!! I won't know what to knit first!!
Love the fingerless mitts too--they are all so pretty. I have never knit gloves or mittens yet--maybe this will be the year to try them--but I can barely keep up with the socks and the baby things anymore!!

P.S. I saw a beautiful yarn today at my LYS that would look beautiful knit up in that first pair if you were to want a test knitter who would do a short row heel for you :) It boggles my mind how you come up with all those beautiful patterns!!

Oh gosh, that sock is gorgeous!! Now I want to drop everything and knit my shibui yarn!! I'm so glad you sent more patterns to Sheri, they sold out quickly and there are lots I NEED to have!!! The colors are spectacular around here as well! I wish they would last months instead of days or weeks!! The only thing I don't like about Fall is that Winter always seems to follow....

I really like the pooling on the new sock. The pattern is beautiful.

The pair of socks are so very pretty.

Sounds like you need to knit up a bunch of those mitts to have on hand. ;)

The ariel mitts are just beautiful, Monica...and your socks, of course.

The case of the disappearing mitts ... sounds like an easy to solve mystery. "Everyone show your hands!" Can't blame them; they are lovely mitts.

I love your new sock pattern glad to hear you have them in the notebook!
I will have to knit up a pair when the pattern becomes available.

The tree looks beautiful.

I am surprised that the Shibui pooled like that. While I don't mind pooling too much, I thought the yarn was more of a semi solid. Your socks patterns are quite nice. The Triple Twist pattern is my favorite.

First of all... I am so terribly jealous of that gorgeous tree!! It was the mid 80's here again today, big sigh.

Your pattern writing skills amaze me, I love to see what new and different ideas you have in store for the sock knitting crew.
