Not Much Going On.......

I really have been knitting, but it seems like there is not much to show. I think the kids being out of school has drastically cut into my knitting time. The afghan looks the same , only a bit longer. I think I have about 20 inches knit on that, woo hoo only 40 more to go. I won't bore you with a picture of it since it looks the same as it did in the last post, just imagine it twice as long.

On the sock front, I am close to being finished with the SWTC socks. I should be able to get these finished today, that is if the kids will let me. I really like the TOFUtsies yarn, it is soft and the finished sock is wonderful. DD1 is in love with the color of this one (color 789) so I may have to get more of this for her. I am almost finished with the gusset decreases and then it goes really quickly. If only the "Mom Cab" didn't have to make so many runs a day, I could get stuff done. I really need to clean my house. Now that they are home, it is a total disaster.... not that I was such a great housekeeper to begin with.

Sheri at The Loopy Ewe had a little of the new Cherry Tree Hill Sockittome sock yarn. I don't think this yarn is expected to be in shops until early fall, but she had a small test run sample. I was very happy to be able to grab some of that while it was available. I bought the Moody Blues colorway. This yarn is nice. It feels a little thicker than the supersock, well to me it does anyway. I was worried I was going to wear all the good off of this yarn before I even got half a sock knit. I frogged it about 5 times before I decided to go with this. I don't know why I chose the rosewood needles with this dark yarn, my eyes are not liking the dark yarn on the dark needles much ... I know better than to do that. All my other needles must be occupied...anyway, that is my excuse for this error in judgement.

Last night DD1 and I drove up to just south of Indy. A friend of mine used to have a yarn shop, she closed last summer :( She still has some yarn she wants to sell, so every now and then she will open a small shop and have a knit in and try to sell some yarn. She had one lonely hank of Soxie Great Adirondack yarn left in the Beach House color . I had to have it. This is a sock yarn I have never knit with, it is soft. It seems a little thinner to me than what I normally knit with. I may have to knit this on 0's, and it only has 360 yards, so that will limit my pattern choices since I have such huge size 10 feet. I will hopefully be able to go back up to her shop the next time she is open and buy more sock yarn.

I am a Bad Blogger

Karen said surely I have something I can post, and my daughter says I am a bad blogger since it has been so long. I have been knitting. I had several May deadlines to meet, and I did knit a lot, but some of those I can not post. I do have some knitting to show. I finally finished a pair of socks for the month of May. These are the OnLine Highland socks. 68 stitches on size 1 double points. This yarn feels a little thicker and a little scratchier than Opal, I hope it washes softer. These are pair 8 for the 52 Pair Plunge, May socks for SAM3 and my Yikes! Stripes socks for Socktopia.

I started an afghan for my in-laws for their anniversary. It is in August. Hopefully, I can stay focused and finished on time. The yarn is Bollicini Maxi from Cascade Yarn . I like working with it. I wanted something that was mostly wool, but machine washable. This is 70% Merino and 30% Acrylic. The pattern is from Martingale's "Little Box of Throws". It will match their living room furniture nicely, and keep my father- in -law toasty warm, he is always cold.

I started a little toddler sized sweater. A friend of mine gave me a gift card for Hobby Lobby, I bought a bunch of dish cloth cotton. They had some of their store brand yarn on sale, 40% off, so I bought a ball. I am not too impressed with it. It splits really bad. The label claims it is a bulky wt. yarn, but I am knitting it on size 6 needles and getting a nice fabric. I could easily knit this yarn on 4 or 5's and still have a nice fabric. They definitely need to rethink that wt thing. It is very soft though knit up. This is my own creation. I started the fronts, but have not gotten very far. And I also decided to use up some of my other cotton and make a baby tank. I haven't picked the neckline or the armholes yet to finish it. My nine year old came home from school yesterday and decided to try it on. She is a bean pole. It fits her like her tankini tops. She has claimed it as her own. She doesn't want me to do any of the finishing other than weave in ends. She knows that will make the armholes and the neckline smaller and then it won't fit her. LOL Today was their last day of school. Her teacher has an ice cream party at her house for the kids. It was outside. It was loud, and hot and the bugs were biting like crazy. It didn't seem to bother the kids though. I am so glad to be able to sleep in tomorrow.

Yarn, Yarn ...

...and more yarn. Karen told me I had to show my sock yarn. It is not as impressive as it used to be. I have been knitting from my stash so it is dwindling. From the one tub there is this enough for about 42 pair of socks. I have more scattered about the house, but this was all together and easy to locate. Deb is doing daily blogs and this was the topic one day this week. I need to go buy some more sock yarn, this is pitiful. The smaller single skeins are enough for socks for the youngest so I count those too. I have knit 7 pair so far for the 52 Pair Plunge, so I am glad to know I have enough in my stash to knit the required 52 pair. Of course there are about 6 or 7 or maybe (definitely) more in progress too.

OK Karen, the yarn from The Loopy Ewe. From The Knittery in the Grace colorway. A very yummy, Merino / Cashmere blend. I love it! I can't wait until they get more in! It is very soft and the colors are beautiful. I haven't decided on a pattern for this one yet. And the yarn from Stone Barn Fibers in the Lamurple colorway. I love that name. 100% Superwash Merino, they still have a few colors left in this yarn, but not this color... sorry. My two girls are fighting over this. Silly, silly, girls, this is for me, me , me. And, I have never knit with OnLine sock yarn before, so I thought I would give it a try. This is one of the Highlander colorways. I started this one before the others because I was sick all weekend, and didn't have the energy to stand up let alone wind any yarn. I spent Mother's Day/ my Birthday in bed, coughing and aching, and running a fever of 102. I am still coughing and aching but no more fever and chills. The school year can't end soon enough for me, then my kids will stop bringing home every bug that is going around.

I have also knit another baby hat for The Loopy Ewe Quarterly Challenge. It is knit in a 100% merino yarn, nice and soft for a baby head. After I get a few more of these finished I will mail them in. I wish I had a baby head to put it on, it is a pill box style with a flat top. None of DD2 dolls have big enough heads to model it properly. Those AG dolls and bitty babies have small heads.

And, I finally finished the hat and mittens for SWTC. Kat says it is OK to show them and advertise. They are knit in Gianna, in the Falling Rain colorway. These were fun to knit. I just need to finish typing up the pattern, and mail them in. It is taking awhile for them to dry since they are so thick, but this yarn is so soft, esp after it is washed.

Well that is all I have to show today. It is so nice here today, cool and breezy. I am glad to be able to wear my handknit socks. I even got to wear the ones Karen made for me yesterday. Soon it will be way too warm for that. Happy knitting everyone.

Mail Call,.. Again

Two great packages in less than a week. I love it! My sister sent out my B-day package a few days early, but there is no way I can wait until Sunday to open it ...sorry Mandy:) Look at the wonderful package she sent. And she added little notes with each present. The new Favorite Socks book, I love it and will be knitting many of these, some I already have. She knit me a pair of blue socks in Trekking, I am lacking in blue socks and she knew that. I love blue, I just don't seem to buy much blue yarn, go figure? She sent the little bit of extra yarn along and commented that she has never had so little yarn left. I think she is implying I have big feet. A Starbucks gift card, I have to work tonight so I will be having a White Chocolate Mocha Frappicino for the ride up. And chocolate goodies, I do love chocolate. Thank you so much Karen, you are the best sister ever!!!!! And speaking of birthday presents. I ordered myself some yarn from The Loopy Ewe I can't wait to get it. I ordered it early this morning, and by this afternoon they were sold out of the yarn from The Knittery, still had some of the Stone Barn Fibers, hurry and go order before it is all gone. I can't wait to get it.

And I have been knitting, but I can't share it with you. I did knit a baby hat for the quarterly challenge at The Loopy Ewe. I want to knit a few more of these and some fingerless mitts. I don't know what the yarn is, it was donated to me for my charity knitting. I can tell you it is yummy and was wonderful to knit with and oh so soft. Well, that is it for today, hopefully I will have more knitting to share later in the week.

The Mailman Came !!!!!!!

What a great day this is starting out to be. I was laying on the couch taking my usual morning nap ...I am a firm believer in naps, and I hear the doorbell ring. I am expecting a "secret" package, so I get up to answer the door ( I usually don't do this as it interferes with my much needed napping) Well, it is not the Fed Ex man with the other package, but a package from Deb . She emailed me yesterday about the package so I was not expecting it until Friday. What a pleasant surprise , (those are the only surprises I like ...the pleasant ones). And what a happy looking package it was, look at all those wonderful colors. And this is what I found inside. Wow, Wow, Wow what a great prize package. Deb had a contest back in Feb. Name the project. I didn't get them all right, but I guess I got enough of them right because I won this great package of goodness, well worth the wait Deb :) Enclosed was Misti Alpaca Lace wt and Addi Turbo Lace needles ( I have been wanting some of these, and I love, love, love, Misti Alpaca), now I can knit the Swallow Tail shawl too. A sock blocker key chain kit, I have been wanting one of these too, I will have to fight my DD1 for that, but I will win this one. Lovely Frog Tree Alpaca, which Deb dyed, I love Alpaca, just ask my sister The colors are gorgeous and some of my very favorite. Beautiful hand made stitch markers, a cute sheep tape measure, I will have to hide that or I will never be able to find it, as DD2 thinks they are the cutest things ever, and it is even a black one, they usually have a lot of the white ones and no black ones in the shops. A little felted pouch, I will store my small knitting goodies in. Rosemary crackers and Cranberry Chutney. I can't wait to try the chutney, I love cranberries...I won't have to hide that from anyone since they don't share my love of all things cranberry. Thank you, thank you , thank you, Deb!!!! I love it all!
Last week the mailman brought me a small package. I have been wanting to try this yarn. The colors are more green than the yellow I was expecting, you know that whole monitor thing, but it is soft and I have heard good things about it. I think I am going to knit the Cross Hatch Lace pattern from More SKS with this. I have a ton of things to knit before I knit this, but I went ahead and wound it. I knew I would be pressing my luck if I saved a bunch of yarn to take to Karen's for the next visit. I think my winding faerie may be on strike after the last visit.

I finished the little baby dress too. I finished it yesterday morning, the shower was yesterday evening. I was worried about it getting dry before I had to put it in the gift bag. I left it out for the hour drive up and put it in with the rest of the goodies before I went in, finally dry. It was oooed and awed over. I had a hard time letting that one go. It was an easy knit, I have no need for a baby dress, but there is just something so darn cute about all things baby sized. She loved the socks and the baby blanket too. I had a great time. I don't often go out with friends without the rest of the family, and the girls I work with are crazy. Get them all together and away from work, give a few of them a little wine, and it is a riot. I have not laughed so much in a long time.

Baby Socks Galore

I have been so busy with these little baby socks. There are so many girls at work in the family way, I thought I would knit a bunch of them since I am knitting for an upcoming baby shower already. Some are knit in Reynolds Utopia Sport and some in Cascade Fixation. I love little baby socks almost as much as I love little baby feet. As you can see the knitter's ADD extends even to the littlest of projects. I can't even finish a pair of baby socks without starting another one ... how sad is that?

I did finish the Scroll socks from MSKS, knit in Blackberry Ridge Mer- Made Fingering in the Tropical Fish colorway. I will probably knit this pattern again. It is so quick and easy to memorize. The only thing I didn't like about this yarn was the way the green and yellow pooled together. The other side of the socks has huge pools of it and the whole time I was knitting, it reminded me of John Deere tractors.... not that I have anything against John Deere tractors ( no letters please), I just don't want John Deere socks. This yarn is very soft and wonderful to work with. I have not seen it around here, I bought it in Cincinnati while visiting my sister a couple years ago. I have had a few comments on the sock blockers. I got them from the Loopy Ewe , go ahead and go order some, I will wait..... I love mine!

Last night after I finished grafting the toe on the Scrolls, I cast on a pair for DD2...well because the needles were empty, and I believe it is a sin to have empty sock needles... right? She chose this color of Opal Farbe 6 Partie 136. I have to admit, this is not my favorite colorway or family of Opal, but the price was right and the kids like it. I don't like the way the colors make the heel look sloppy, trust me it isn't, it is just the way the colors fall. I was worried that I had made the short row heel too deep for her little foot, but it is a perfect fit. She loves them! Too bad it is too warm for her to wear them now. I will make them a tad longer than she needs them for right now so they will fit her in the fall. I am hoping there will be enough of this for a pair of socks for my DS too. These are his school colors, well for another year anyway.

Karen told me about a contest Carrie is having ... there is sock yarn involved, and she has a fun blog. Knit a springy looking cloth and have your name thrown in for some sock yarn. So I dug through my dwindling S&C cotton stash and whipped this up yesterday. I am in need of some new cloths so this contest came at just the perfect time.

Whew, I think that is all I have to show and tell for today. I have to take DD1 to the library. It is so pretty here today, after a cold gloomy yesterday .... I think I will knit outside today. Happy weekend all!

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy...

Woo Hoo, I finished the baby blanket. I am so happy to have this thing finished. It was taking forever, to get around just one round. It ended up with 680 stitches. I did a single crochet followed by a shell stitch for the edging. That took me forever too, as I am not proficient in crochet. I tried to get a good picture of it flat but I just couldn't. DD1 says she would like one, but in adult size please .... I don't think it is going to happen any time soon unless I can find some really nice, super bulky, yarn for it.

I finished the back of the baby dress too. I have cast on for the front and am working the endless stockinette stitch of the skirt part of the dress. I am so looking forward to the bodice section, lots of decreases and it will be finished in no time at all. I am also going to make a little pair of Mary Jane's to go with the dress and a few pair of baby socks / booties. I started one little pair last night, but the picture is a bit blurry, so I will share those later.


And, I have a little sock progress to show, but not much. The cable socks have been my "take along" project in the car. I am on the gusset decreases on this sock. It will be quick now with half the stitches in stockinette. I do so love cables.
The other sock is the one I was graphing the other day. I frogged the reticulated sock from SSK and decided to go with something different, but with the same yarn.
If I frog these it will be to do the cuff different, otherwise I like it.

I am off to tale the kidletts to be tortured at the allergists office for their shots. Happy knitting all.

ADD knitting

I really need to be working on the never ending baby blanket. I need to have it finished by the end of this month. It doesn't look any different picture wise from before, because it is still all scrunched up on the circular needles, but it is about 32 inches across now and over 600 stitches around. I did make myself work on it during Survivor last night and even continued to knit on it through CSI. But then it was put away for sock knitting. I will work on it again this evening during whatever we watch on Friday nights.... DH controls the remote. I usually just sit and knit anyway and occasionally listen. Unless it is Survivor or the Amazing Race.

I finished the first Scroll Lace sock in the Blackberry Ridge yarn. And I even cast on for the second one. I wish I didn't have such big feet. It was really nice knitting those little ankle socks for my niece and her small feet. That foot just seems to go on forever and ever.

And because I have knitter's ADD and absolutely no self control, I cast on for the Traveling Vine socks in the Koigu I won for the Socktopia Knit Off. I am knitting from both balls at the same time because there is a noticeable difference in the shade from one ball to the other. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the butt, not knowing for sure when I am finished with a whole ball... you just never know with the small Koigu balls. I am hoping all the lace work will save me. Maybe I will make the toes solid purple just to be on the safe side. I have some dark purple Koigu left over from socks I made for my niece. I just don't know....

I ripped out the Reticulated socks I was knitting a long time ago, I don't feel like knitting those anymore. I was graphing some charts the other day so I think when I get the baby blanket finished and the yarn has had time to rest I will cast on for a new design. Well that is about all for today. Time to knit some more.

Weekend Knitting Update

We went to Cincinnati this weekend to visit and celebrate my nieces Birthday. It was very cold for this time of the year. I finished my nieces socks while we were there. I didn't start them until Thursday night so I knit on them right in front of her Friday and some on Saturday, but she is so used to seeing me knit she didn't even pay attention to what I was working on. That whole hiding them in plain sight really does work. I forgot to take my camera along, so I had her send a picture to me so I could post them. They are just some Plain Jane ankle socks, 64 stitches knit in Regia Cotton Surf on size 1 circs. I also gave her an I- tunes card and a puzzle of Captn' Jack Sparrow. She and DD1 had that put together in no time at all.

And since I had empty needles, after I finished those, I cast on another pair. Karen has the new More Sensational Knitted Socks. I started the Scroll Lace socks with some Blackberry Ridge Fingering wt I have had for awhile. It is the Tropical Fish colorway. What an easy pattern to remember and really a pretty quick knit.

Karen got her socks and they fit, I am so glad. And to show you just really what a slacker sister I am .... I took yarn over for her to wind for me. Now, I have to tell you, I have a ball winder and swift, I just hate to drag it all out. She tells me all the time she likes to wind yarn, so I thought this would make her happy ... right? Well I left it at her house on Friday night when we left for the Hotel hoping the winding fairy would appear throughout the night, but it was still in the bag in hanks when we returned the next morning. But later in the afternoon the winding fairy wound all this for me. Lorna's and Koigu, all in beautiful little cakes. I mentioned that I should have brought more later when we were talking and she told me I was on my own. ....Maybe she doesn't like winding yarn as much as I thought.

A lot of socks.....

...But only one pair is finished so far. I knit these socks for my sister for our sock exchange. I am a slacker sister and have had mine from her for a long time. Thank goodness she is patient with me. She understands my second sock syndrome affliction, and knitter's ADD. I knit these in Lorna's Laces in the Sunshine colorway. They fill many categories ... they are yellow for Project Spectrum, My April socks for SAM3, pair 1 of 52 for the 52 Pair Plunge, and my "Sunshine on my Shoulders" theme socks for Socktopia. If you are interested in any of these groups just click on the button located in the sidebar button area to the right. This is my own pattern, and no I didn't write it out. I did graph the chart for the lace but I misplaced that about half way through the first sock, so I don't think it will be reproduced. Someday I will learn to take notes as I knit. Karen, I promise I will remember to bring them along this weekend.

I finished this sock last night while I was watching Bones. 3 x 1 rib on the leg, standard heel flap and stockinette foot on size 1 circs. Opal yarn from the Rainforrest collection in the Doktor Fish colorway. I think it is one of my favorite colorways after the the original Petticoat from Opal. It is a mindless, so they will be the socks I knit in the car when we go to Ohio this weekend for my niece's B-day.
And I have two other pair of socks I started this past weekend. One pair in Meilenweit Inca, Farbe 1526, Partie 65427. Size 1 dpn's, short row heel. These require a little concentration, so I only knit on these when the kids aren't around.

The other pair is in Opal Uni, a very pretty blue. I am knitting it all in cables, I do so love texture in knitting. And the cables keep me from getting too bored. Size 2 Lantern Moon dpn's. I love those Rosewood needles. The yarn doesn't glide as quickly across these as they do with my Crystal Palace dpn's, (which are really my very favorite dpn's), but I love the feel of them, and the stitches are less likely to slip off as I do the cables without a cable needle.

The other pair is for this months Project Spectrum also. "Pinks". Another plain jane for knitting in the car, and while waiting at the allergy office, and for all the after school activities. The yarn is Trekking 133. And crystal palace dpn's, EOP heel.

And Look what else I got this week. A new vehicle. Another Honda Odyssey, 2007. We traded in the 2003. I have it sitting out with the windows cracked to get rid of the new car smell. It gives me a migraine. My kids love the new car smell, but oh it makes me so sick. I went out into the garage a bit ago and the smell about made sick to my stomach, so out to the drive it went.

Weekend Knitting

I am recuperating from the flu and now that it is allergy season, I just hadn't felt like knitting much the last week and a half. This weekend however, was the "Knit Off" for Socktopia Momma Monkey designed a sock for the competition and released it on Sat. afternoon and the knitting commenced. We were divided onto teams and who ever gets the first pair of socks knit and posted, wins the prize....Koigu yarn, stitch markers, sock project bag...what more could you ask for. I knit these socks in 14.5 hours. I started at 1 PM took a two hour break so we could take my MIL out for her B-day dinner and continued knitting until 3:30AM and they were finished. DD1 says now that she knows I can knit a pair of socks in 14.5 hours she would like all of hers to be finished that quickly.... I don't think so. These are knit in Trekking XXL, size 2 DPN's.

I am also counting these for the Loopy Ewe Challenge. I answered the questionnaire and apparently I am a "Frank", so I had to Knit a pair of "Martha" socks. Anyway, I think these are Martha socks, they are pretty neutral and very different from my usual colorful socks.

This weekend I started a baby dress for a girl at work. She is expecting in June. It is a Debbie Bliss pattern from the Special Knits book. It is really more of a very pale pink than the peachy color it appears to be in the picture. It is a 60% Cotton 40% acrylic blend. Size 3 circular needle. I am almost to the bodice decreases and then it will go super fast, that is until I cast on for the front and start all over again. I was going to knit it in the round to the armholes, but my longer cable size 3 is already in use, so I will knit it as the directions say. And since I don't have enough WIPs, I started another pair of socks today. I am knitting them in ArtYarns fingering wt. I don't have the ball band any more so I don't know the color number right off hand, but I do know the name is Girlie Camouflage, or something like that. The picture was blurry and I am too lazy to go out and take another one so I will share a picture of it later.

And on Saturday the mail man brought this to me all the way from Australia. ChocolateTrudi was having a blogiversary contest and I won one of the prizes. It is an Italian brand, lace wt, Kid Mohair blend yarn. I have never knit with it. She sent "9, " yes that is right... 9 balls, with 656 yds a ball. I think there will be some shawls knit this year for Christmas presents. Thank you very much ChocolateTrudi!

I have my "scarf exchange" scarf done. I need to get the little points that appeared during blocking out of it. I need to buy some blocking wires so I don't have to worry about those pesky little needle made points. I will share a picture of that after she gets it. I don't know if she visits my blog and I don't want to spoil the surprises

Caution ... woman knitting ahead

I have been knitting, knitting, knitting. A friend of mine and I, and her dear husband took a road trip on Friday to Morgantown to the yarn shop . She was in search of a cotton/ wool blend for a cable project. I am going to be teaching her to cable soon. She surprised me by buying me a ball of Tofutsie. I have not knit with this yarn before, and was interested in how it would knit up. I cast on Friday night and this is what I have so far. It is very soft and the finished sock feels really nice. That whole Chitin thing kind of scared me though. It does have a "different" aroma to it but it is not too bad once you get used to it. The label says Chitin is fiber from shrimp and crab shells and is naturally antibacterial. Interesting , huh? Thank you again Henrietta and Smith for a lovely day.
And for the UFO resurrection. I am frogging a sweater I started years ago and have completely ignored. This sweater is from the Classic Elite Book Knitting the Classics. I love the sweater and the pattern, but I lost interest in knitting it ... and I found a mistake in one of the X & O's cables so I was going to have to do some frogging anyway. So off to the frog pond it went and is now going to be this sweater. A Fiona Ellis pattern, I think it is called A Gathering, I don't have the pattern right here, but I am pretty sure that is what it is or very close to that anyway. Hopefully I won't lose interest in this one. I am going to knit it sans I- cord gathering, much to DD1's dismay.
I am making some progress on the baby blanket, even though it feels never ending. I must be making some progress since the yarn is disappearing from the ball. With it being all bunched up on the circulars it is really hard to tell just how big it is, but I would guesstimate about 24" across. It is 400 stitches around , and seems like it takes an eternity to get around. Why, oh why, did I pick a sport weight yarn for this project. I am going to crochet a white shell border around it when it is done. I still am searching for the yarn for the baby dress she wants.

And for no other reason than because I had an empty set of needles, I started another pair of socks last night. Just a pair of plain jane stockinette stitch socks. These will go out into the van for the expected and unexpected waits I may encounter. Trekking 133 pastels. Well, I need to finish a pair of socks I am test knitting so I can get them in the mail. It is sunny and warm and beautiful here in South Central Indiana ... I hope it is where you are too.

No one could possibly have a better sister than I do! Isn't it lovely, I took the ball band off to show all the hidden colors. I will have to wind this ...
