Oh my that was close. I was working on the sKNITches socks this weekend, and when I finished the first sock I thought to myself, "this doesn't look like much yarn." Wanting them to match, I wound a little off the ball so I could start at the same place, and cast on for the second sock. When I turned the heel I was pretty certain I wasn't going to have enough, but on I knit. And then I got to the point (to the left) in the picture..... crud, and so close. It was funny though, as the ball was getting smaller and smaller, I found myself knitting faster and faster, as if I could out knit the amount of yarn I had left.
Then I realized that the faster I was knitting the tighter my gauge was, making that small amount of yarn go even less in distance. I began searching the Internet for another hank.
I bought this at
The Loopy Ewe but they are sold out :( And then the light went on. I had a tiny bit from the beginning of the second sock. Those toes don't match, but that sock is finished. And I think I have about a yard of yarn left :)
But I fear that is not the end of the yarn shortage. I don't think I have enough to finish this pair. These are knit in The Knittery Merino Cashmere sock yarn in the Grace colorway. I am going to work on these tonight. It is still in stock, well the last time I checked it was, at The Loopy Ewe, so if I do indeed run out there is a chance I could get more. I knit this same sock in CTH Sockittome and had plenty of yarn left over. The CTH has a little more yardage 480 as opposed to the 458 in the Knittery yarn. I am keeping my fingers crossed, well maybe my toes so I can still knit. I hope the knitting faeries will be with me as I finish these.
Happy Knitting everyone!!

Wow! that was close. They are so pretty. Pick on me to test knit this pattern too. And if anyone can make the next pair work it's you. Good Luck!!!
I hate the feeling of running out of yarn! The pattern for those Snitches socks is really cute.
The Sknitches sock is so cute! Will you be writing a pattern for it?
Love those socks! Perfect match of stitch pattern and color. Great job! :)
I love the sknitches sock. Could you share the pattern?
Wow that was a close one for sure. Glad that you didn't completely run out.
Hopefully you won't run out on the new ones.
That is my greatest knitting fear -running out of yarn! That was a close shave for the first pair...just beautiful I must add.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you on the second pair...also beautiful.
happy knitting :)
I think they look lovely. Great socks as always.
Love the yarn....LOVE the pattern....we want it NOW!!!!!
Pulease!
I have to agree with everyone. Love the socks. Both pair are very nice and hope you will share the pattern.
Running out is the worst... especially when you're not sure you can get more. I'll keep all my fingers crossed for that second pair!
Oh I love, love both patterns. Did you create both? Really nice. I haven't had the problem of not enough yarn yet, but I can just imagine knitting faster as if that would keep you from running out. LOL.
Boy.. what a sinking feeling, but way to get it done! They all look great!! Love the patterns! You must have very happy feet :-)
I think that the snitches pattern is one of my favorited. Great job as always!
Glad you could make it work out because the socks look great! I understand the knitting faster and faster before the yarn runs out--I'd be doing the same! I hope you have enough yarn for the Knittery pair.
I HATE those close calls and always save every little bit of yarn - so far I haven't been burned, but I have come as close as you.
By now you probably know if you had enough of the merino cashmere for the 2nd pair - I'm betting you did!
AND both pair of your socks are just beautiful!!
The socks are beautiful - both pairs. I have size 10 feet, and have run into this problem more than once. I am a fairly new sock knitter and have started shortening them up a bit, but it is still irritating. Fingers crossed on the second pair for you.
What fantastic socks. I love the colors too, so pretty.
Lovely socks, as always:)
